Bruuuuce

Happy 60th to The Boss. I recall many a college day, standing on a bed or couch, playing air guitar along to Rosalita or Badlands. 4M and I caught him for the first time at Cornell U. on the Darkness tour, which triggered 4M's upstate NY peregrination, following The E Street Band. I, of course, returned to my studies. Neither of us had ever seen anything comparable He closed out the first half of that show with Because the Night. At the coda, he threw his guitar in the air. It spun to the floor and the moment it hit, the music stopped and the lights went out. Legendary.

The more things change, the more they stay the same. Now my son is at college, rocking it to the soundtrack of his life, even though Bruce may have been replaced by The Jonas Brothers. His old man sits at home, cluelessly blogging. I just realized the title of Monday's post was a retread. I have to use that old search feature, though it does not seem to be working the way I want it to. I vaguely recall telling that Cornell story before. Hopefully it wasn't here.

Work is going well. We've got several projects keeping me busy. I did some mission critical cutting and pasting today. Being the bandwidth czar is a good gig. I realize the Republicans are not too crazy about czars these days, so I'm laying low.

Yearning to Blog Free

If I don't post for two weeks or so, I feel the need to do so, even if I don't have much to say. I'd advise you to bail now.

I've been a little under the weather. I woke up in Tahoe the weekend before last with a bit of scratchy throat. I blame the lunatics I was with; #2, TCG and The Hotelier. We were supposed to have a couple more guys, to be unnamed since they stood us up. Some bullshit about a hospital stay and a business trip etc.

The four of us had a raucous time. The Hotelier brought a bottle of Hennessy, which disappeared the first night. I believe that is Kanye West's drink of choice. We made asses of ourselves too, just not in front of a national audience. The only bummer was the timing of the trip. Since I had committed to it some time ago, I could not make the DC Tea Party. Glenn Beck claimed there were 1.7 million folks there. He said that was corroborated by a university, the name of which he could not remember.. Maybe it was GWU or Catholic. The damn liberal press said the crowd was only about 75,000.

I had a good dinner with my bud Dr. Joe last week. We met up in SF and went to Piperade. He was impressed by my restaurant choice. I've wanted to go there for a while. It's owned by Gerald Hirigoyen, and features dishes from his native Basque region. He also owns Fringale, one of my sister's favorites. You can't go wrong with either.

I got an interesting call the other day. I had put a mirror and lamps on Craig's List for free. The caller stated that she was a student and didn't have a car. She wondered if I could drop the mirror off in Palo Alto. Oh hell yeah! Do you need a couch too? Anything else I can do for you, chucklehead?

This weekend was much more low key than last. It was just me and two of the three kids. It was the ladies turn to go to Tahoe. I just stayed home and cooked, sitting by the window Sunday afternoon, awaiting her return.

Hedgehog

My bud The Belgian is in the news these days for his contributions to the battle against cancer. The fact that he's been lording it over me and the rest of the chumps in our little Daddy's club all day does not bother me in the least. I am a tad pissed at myself though because I think I've screwed up the naming convention on my blog. The Belgian, a VP and PhD, really should be The Exec. I've come to realize that The Exec doesn't have the stature required to bear that name. But my oeuvre is imbued with it, so I must be phlegmatic.

This long holiday weekend I plan to take a trip to Venus with Japan's next First Lady. But don't worry about it. It's platonic. And TK will be spending it in Pacific Grove, in case anybody gives a damn.

Dancing with the Idealogues

My financial adviser Maria Bartiromo said I could save big on medical insurance by using Medicare. This is a good thing since I need to see a gastroenterologist every time I hear her talk.

On the right, Dick Cheney is grousing and covering his ass to the best of his ability. He thinks the current administration ought to take tips from the previous one vis-a-vis keeping us safe. I'll take my chances without their advice. Sarah Palin is going to Hong Kong. I think they have a Disneyland there. I'm giving Glenn Beck two months before he's unemployed. Lastly, Twinkletoes Delay will be making his debut later this month. I wonder if Tommy Boy likes to slam dance.
