Who Are You Wearing?

We had some quality family time this past weekend in San Diego. We flew in Thursday night and met up with SB1. The girl didn't know he was coming so we surprised her when she picked us up at SAN. Saturday night was Senior Night for The Tritons so the three of us plus my mother-in-law walked her out to center court. I was concerned I was going to have to do a lot of hugging, but I was spared. We got some great pictures of the family, like a cute mom and daughter shot and one of me and SB1. He had a kick ass look on his face as we were holding the flowers.

They sure do play a lot of that rap music before the ballgames. SB1 said we could collaborate on some, with him doing the beats and me doing the lyrics. I could rail against the corporate life. The boy also told me he liked Kanye and Jay Z. If he was kidding, well, he got me. If not, he's no son of mine.

We went out for a nice Italian dinner Saturday night, If I recall correctly, the owner was trying to unload about a pound of buffalo mozzarella on me as an appetizer. Cooler heads prevailed and we had some good salumi. Everyone enjoyed their meals and we had a few bottles of Super Tuscan. I was pretty beat by the time we got home so I wanted to go straight to bed. My 85 year old mother-in-law busted my chops good for that the next morning.

Tomorrow the girl and her twin bro hit 22. Double deuce redux.

Did you watch the Oscars? I didn't but there seemed to be a lot of controversy. Travolta screwed up his chance to atone for the Adele Dazeem episode. Sean Penn stuck his foot in his mouth, Shonda Rimes was not happy with Gaga, and some didn't like Arquette's message. I could have done without NPH in his undies. Joan Rivers got left out of the In Memoriam segment, but she was a comic, not an actress, so I don't get the contretemps.

On the bright side, the selfless Lady Gaga gave the pot washer at one of the after parties the night off.

As I Sit Weeping

Today is Valentine's Day. Where is my wife? She is in Palm Springs on a girl's weekend. I can't help but feel that if the situation were reversed, there would be recrimination. But then again, I would never leave her side on this, the second most sacred Hallmark holiday after Father's Day. I went to the club early for a tribathalon to try to shake this lugubrious fog, to no avail.

I spoke with The Wig yesterday. I mentioned the upcoming weekend and he did his best to comfort me. I gave him a call because Sonny Boy One is heading to Richmond today, apparently with four other rapscallions. He mentioned visiting The Wigs, so I facilitated that, even if he was only looking for a free meal.

Last night Sonny Boy Two and I went to SF State for a UCSD hoops game. The Execs joined us for a good court battle. The Tritons pulled away at the end. I also spent last Saturday night in Turlock. Yes, it was great. The girl and team went up against CSU Stanislaus. One of the opponents was a Valley Christian alum she faced off with during her high school career, That young women dropped in a few sweet threes in Stanislaus' losing effort while my kid put in some good minutes

In entertainment news, I watched the Grammys in a record five minutes. I caught a little of Sam Smith and Hozier with Annie Lennox. I may go back and check out ELO with Ed Sheeran. Kanye can piss off and the rest of it you can chuck.

For general news, my wife got me started on The Skimm. I think I might try writing my own version for a week. We'll see.

Regarding this blog, I got a boatload of hits from Time Warner in NYC last weekend. I accused the Phoenix Flyboy of reading my blog during a layover, but he was innocent. Somebody in NYC was using it as an insomnia cure.

Groundhog Day

I'm only writing this so I won't get fined.

OK, I'm writing it because #1 took me to task yesterday for not posting at yesterday's Super Bowl party. I've been sick for a week, thanks to my wife, and my readers need to understand that I'm fragile.

We had a great time at the TCG's abode yesterday. We had the square board and several other bets going. It was a five way split for MVP. I think this will be Tommy's last stand.

We all enjoyed the commercials as well as the game. There was one where the Today staff was walking around smiling and yukking it up. It was during this one that I discovered that Mrs. TCG is as big a fan of Matt Lauer as I am. And the Always ad caused #2 to spray about a five foot swatch in front of him with the water he was drinking. That one took us all aback a bit.

Also, lot of weird stuff, like that thing Katy Perry was riding and why they didn't run Lynch at the end.

I made my white chili and it got some good reviews. I'm sharing it here. Simple.

Chris Christie has been pandering to the ant-vaccine voter. He apparently had to clarify his remarks. These clowns will say anything if they think it will get them votes. If it doesn't fly, they'll just "walk it back". I really don't get this shit. I'm a geezer and I got vaccinated as a kid.

My alma mater is the setting for a new movie called The Rewrite. My brother and I plan to go and see how places we recognize. The writer and director graduated the same year I did but he never met me.

I saw this product in CVS a while ago. I though it might come in handy but it turned out to be useless. I sprayed it all over myself but still had to pee a lot.
