It Is Always the Weekend Now

Blogging is hard. I’m sitting here at my tiny desk trying to sort through the madness of the past few weeks, from Rudy’s unfounded rants and bad dye job to the fact that Sidney Powell is too crazy to even be part of his team.  Somebody must have released the kraken in her brain. I also saw that Randy Quaid had some unconventional thoughts that POTUS re-tweeted, which prompted Jimmy Kimmel to say that Quaid "makes Gary Busey look like Dr. Fauci".  We’ll be getting rid of Trump soon enough, but not before a pardon spree as well as all his efforts to gum up the transition.  I long for the days when, as my corporate friends say, he is no longer “top of mind”.

I may come back to politics, but I’ll veer into my prosaic, personal reality for now.  Since my last post, I have become a retiree.  We had a nice little get together in my back yard on Sunday to celebrate my future life of sloth. I put out a gift table and was not disappointed. I got some good bottles of cheer and the cool apron pictured at the bottom of this post. The crew had a good time, but the weather was chilly, so my wife had to pull out the Costco blankets she had purchased for exactly this reason. However, we will have the outside heaters installed by the end of the year.  As part of that process, we now have a moat outside our house.  I’d like to keep it and stock it with alligators to fend off any possible sieges, but it is only temporary, allowing our electrician and PG&E to up our amperage.

The trenching was done on Thanksgiving Day, by the same folks that re-did our backyard.  We then had a Zoom call with the kids.  I pulled out my guitar, a retirement gift from The Wolv, and did the openings of 25 or 6 to 4 and Iron Man for them.  They were bowled over by my talent, but I will not rest on my laurels. I plan to expand my repertoire soon. Later that day, we had Unc and Mashie over for a social bubble turkey dinner.  The chow was good, and we then settled in for a viewing of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which I had never seen before.

In celeb news, Matthew Perry is getting engaged to the "greatest woman on the face of the planet".  He stole that line from me because that is how I always refer to my wife. Their age gap is only 22 years so I’m figuring this will last five to ten.  If they end up spending a lifetime together, I’ll be surprised, but happy.  Celebrities are people too, and I have no beef with Mr. Perry.

That’s about it.  December will soon be upon us, so the temperature at night may well be dipping into the 30s.  If you people stay on the right side of me, I may let you hang out under my pergola heaters in the coming days.

The Long Con Is Over

It has been a slow news month, so I have not had much to say lately.

Holy shit, we’re ridin’ with Biden! I have a lot of disjointed thoughts about the crap the Orange Duce and his cabal have been trying to pull.  That may make this one a little tough to read, which it will have in common with most of my posts.

Besides for several lawsuits that have been laughed out of court, the current so-called administration set up a fraud hotline that they have since had to shut down, as it was inundated with NSFW pictures and tons of prank calls, including from noted Trump impersonators Anthony Atamanuik and JL Cauvin.  One guy called in about a suspicious character at the polls in black and white striped shirt with a red tie.  This was the suspect.

Rudy is taking over the election lawsuits, after a white shoe firm bailed out.  They probably came to the realization that however many hours they billed, they’d never collect. I expect America’s Mayor’s efforts will be in vain, but damn if that’ll stop him.  Proximity to power and press coverage is to him what blood is to his cousin, the vampire.  My message to Rudy would be to pack it in and go sip whiskey and smoke cigars at the club, but I get the feeling he’d not be up for my advice.

All this madness has not taken my mind off our current pandemic, but it has edged out my worries about murder hornets.  We’ve received good vaccine news last week and today, so things are looking up.  Oddly, this has pissed off the President, as he thinks they were holding off the announcement until after Election Day.  What can you expect from that prick?

He’s got two more months to stir stuff up.  This weekend he goaded on the Million MAGA marchers.  Kayleigh confirmed that there were a million marchers, although those with the ability to count had it coming in well under six digits.  There was a recent article that “could cast Trump in a very negative light”. Thank you for that but I could have read 35 year old NY Post articles to glean that.

I could probably go on ad nauseum, but that is what you have real writers and pundits for.  I’ll switch over to my fantastic personal life.

We had The Wigs over for dinner Friday.  They were enraptured with my company and the Coq au Riesling I whipped up for them.  I treated them to one of my signature cocktails, The Corpse Reviver 2.  Look it up people.  The Wigs are awaiting the birth of their granddaughter, so are based in Cole Valley for the month.  We have a Sonoma visit scheduled for next week to Hamel Family Wines, one of their favs.

As most of you know, I have decided to bid adieu to the corporate world.  My retirement date is 11/20/20.  I expect to be writing more about my illustrious career and my impact on the telecom industry, but I think that will be a book length effort.  I had changed jobs recently, but quickly came to the conclusion that it was time to call it quits.  Below is a snapshot of my IM status messages from the job I left in July.  Perhaps this is a clue that I was feeling a little restless.

I’ll close out by announcing that SB1 and his lovely girlfriend will be getting married.  They took a trip down to NC this weekend, where he popped the question.  They gave us a call Saturday to inform us.  Shortly thereafter we had a nice video chat with our soon to be in-laws. No date has been set, but we’ll have a lot of time to discuss their plans when they fly in next month. 💕

Uno Mas

I thought I’d throw one more up here before the election.

The Trumpists showed their true colors in Texas by surrounding Biden’s tour bus and slowing it down on the highway.  The Orange Duce embraced their activities.  Gosh, what happened to law and order.  A Biden spokesman nailed it by saying "For the second time in a week your campaign has left your supporters stranded in the cold with no transportation at one of your superspreader rallies. Maybe you should spend more time worried about those buses than ours."

And today is a "National Day of Remembrance for Americans Killed by Illegal Aliens”, which has Stephen Miller’s fascist fingerprints all over it. What about the COVID deaths?  Oh right, DJT Jr. reminded us they were down to “almost nothing”.  I think a thousand a day is quite a lot, but I may not have his math skills.

OK, your life will be dominated by political news through Tuesday and likely beyond, so I’ll switch gears on my next paragraph.  I just wanted to share some Halloween fun I saw here in the FC today.  There was a tombstone on a lawn saying, “Here lies the Trump administration, and lies and lies and lies”. And there’s good news from Lil Jon.

The wife and I went to The Barrel Bistro and Wine Bar in downtown San Mateo last night.  They do not seem to have a web site, otherwise I’d share it with you.  It was a nice night, and they had some heaters set up outside.  I thought I had ordered a bottle of Syrah, but it ended up being a Petite Syrah.  Petite or not, it was tasty.  We had shrimp ceviche – not quite as good as mine - along with fried calamari, arugula and prosciutto flatbread, and a couple pork tacos.  Two thumbs up.  I’m glad to see these places being able to do a decent business.  And we are lucky to still have outdoor dining this time of year, as my bud UK was doing down in Carmel.  The Dream chimed in that he’d need a snowsuit to do that in his upstate NY town.

I had my usual Zoom session with my trainer yesterday. We usually discuss my NFL pool picks.  His son disagrees with my SF over Seattle pick this week, but otherwise we are in sync.  I appreciate that my trainer tells me to listen to my body, but I get a little discouraged when my body says, “you’re a superannuated sack of flab”.

I’ll leave you with this week’s pool picks.  DJ is tied for third so may make some dough this year.
