Garbage Day

I went to my favorite Safeway this morning and promptly forgot the main ingredient for my fabulous kalamata olive and sauteed onion turkey burgers that I had planned to serve tonight.  I’m going to have to pivot and make the polenta with red wine mushroom sauce from the vegan cookbook my girl gave me for Christmas.  Full disclosure: I plan to replace the coconut oil with butter.  Don’t you wish you lived with me?

It is the penultimate football weekend and I plan to take full advantage.  I will be barricaded in my bedroom from noon until dinner.  DJ is predicting a Packers/Bills Super Bowl.  My upstate NY roots – of course not that far upstate – have me cheering for the Bills.

I turned on the inauguration about 8:55am Wednesday and Joe was already into his speech.  The pundits have had their say, but I was quite satisfied with it.  It was upbeat but also called out all the bullshit we’ve seen for the last four years and beyond.  100 years ago, Warren Harding’s campaign phrase was a “return to normalcy”.  History repeats itself.  The garbage went out Friday morning in Foster City and Wednesday morning in DC. I feel the same now as I did when I posted this twelve years ago. And #1 shared with us a conservative viewpoint.

My son and his betrothed headed back home yesterday.  Biscotti got a double dose of meds for the trip and was quite mellow. We had a lot of fun with them in town.  We held few backyard events with the #1s, Hoteliers, 4Ms et al during their final week.  We had expected our pergola heaters to be up and running for our Friday event, but PGE had to cancel due to rain. We’ll have to wait a few more weeks before we can heat the outdoors.

Larry King passed away recently.  One headline I saw referred to him as an “American treasure”.  Now I have no beef with the oft-married fellow, but American treasure is a little over the top in my view.  I’d like to get your input.  Toledo, OH.  Hello!

Saweetie and Quavo appear to be in love.  He gave her a Bentley and his last piece of chicken. I also hear that Kourtney Kardashian is hooking up with human tattoo Travis Barker.  I wish both these couples the best.  I am only providing the one link because even I didn’t know who the hell Quavo was.

Where’s My Muse?

I was telling the FC boys on our weekly Zoom yesterday that I have not been feeling inspired recently to toss out a new blog post.  They said, “you have a blog?”.  Oh, I kid.  At least one of them reads it regularly.  They suggested I share the news of my football pool win, so I’ll do so.  I came in 4th with a 177 – 79 record for the season, which comes with a $345 prize.  Once we can all reconvene, I’ll buy them a beer.  Now it is on to the playoff pool. This week’s picks are Bills, Bucs, Seahawks, Ravens, Saints and Steelers.  You can take those predictions to the bank.

I woke up to the fantastic news that the Rev. Raphael Warnock beat day trader Kelly Loeffler in one of the GA Senate races and Jon Ossoff has a slim lead in the other.  Trump’s chickens are coming home to roost.  Right now, we are being treated to a sedition shit show thanks to Josh Hawley, Ted Cruz and a bunch of other traitors that think the only valid elections are the ones Republicans win. Currently Cruz has the floor.  I watched about a minute before nausea welled up. Mikey Pence is overseeing that mess. He has zero power to alter Biden’s electoral college win, although a certain ochre hued fantasist disagrees.  Louie Gohmert’s suit has already been tossed, along with everything traitors Giuliani, Powell and Wood have tried to make stick.  There should be consequences for this type of behavior, but I’m not holding my breath.  By the way, Charles Pierce refers to Louie Gohmert as "Padishah Emperor for Life of the Crazy People", which fits.

For those of you that do not want to think about politics, there’s always celebrity news.  The Wig alerted me to the Olivia Wilde / Harry Styles affair.  He is dreamy but a little young for her, no? Regardless, this one has legs and may last well into 2022.  But the big news is a possible Kim Kardashian / Kanye West divorce, which I never could have predicted.  They’ll be OK, but I feel sorry for North, Saint, Chicago and Psalm, and not just because they are stuck with those names.

As I said, the muse has been failing me lately, so that is all I got.  I’ll see what I can do to ramp up production this new year.
