In the News

Swole RFK Jr. is mad as hell and he’s not going to take it anymore.  What a putz. Megan Kelly said his sister kicked him when he was down. WTF! How is he down? The guy is running for President on the fumes of the tarnished Kennedy legacy and he’s got his share of grandpa Joe’s ill-gotten gains to cruise through the rest of his life. Sit down and shut up.

Pickleball, yes or no? I’m not fleet of foot enough to compete and my wife ended up in PT after a few matches, so I lean toward the con side, but damn it I’m lonely.  I’ll have to consult with an expert, like The Exec.

This week my brother and I continue our tour of SF’s oldest restaurants. Up Tuesday is Schroeders. Nothing like a little schnitzel and a stein of German brew to set you straight. In accordance with his wishes, I plan to exude insincerity throughout our luncheon.

I’d like to share in closing that I have not been feeling great lately. I think I could be suffering the ill effects of toxic masculinity.

Bring Back the Snark

That was the message I received from a reader, an eminent, retired attorney that happens to be my brother. He said my last post was a relief, as my sincerity pains him. I guess I’m not so good at sincerity since, at heart, I’m an insincere person.

My wife and I, along with some friends, are blowing up the FC bocce league.  We usually play on Thursday, but we had a make-up game last night, and we kept our record perfect. We now stand at 0 – 5. We had drinks and chow at our house afterward, which went about as well as our game. I put quiche and bread in the oven and turned on the broiler instead of the oven, but we were able to salvage the majority of it. The featured drink was a Corpse Reviver 2.  Our bocce season could use one.

The Vergara/Manganiello era is over. Even beautiful people have bad days. And Ariana Grande has ended her marriage as well.  She was married for two years, which is the equivalent of decades in the celeb world. As always, I urge you to respect their privacy during this difficult time.

I’m considering becoming a citizen of Slowjamastan.  Let me know your thoughts.

I’ve dug into the blog notes to see if there were some pearls I had not shared with you. Of course there were.  I was in Safeway a month or so ago and I was having a problem with the self-checkout. The clerk came over to straighten it out and turned to walk away. She took a couple steps and stopped to check something on her phone. She then farted loudly in my general direction.  This was not the customer experience I was looking for.

My girl is going to see Tay Tay in Seattle on Sunday night.  I sincerely hope she has a great time.

Ripped from the Headlines

#1 is you can't sleep

This one took me aback.

    Were steroids possibly involved?

        I feel better now.

Really??

For me, it was 1971.

Bullshit!.  He’s still alive!

    A bridge too far

Almost better than Godzilla and Rodan

I've fully embraced the trend.

Hail-Fellow-Well-Met

I just got off the horn with my old bud TK.  He is in bachelor mode, with his wife off to Greece for a couple weeks. I called to console him, as we both drift into melancholy when our significant other is gone for more than a few hours. We compared notes on some physical ailments, and also congratulated ourselves on escaping East Coast winters. It was forty years ago Saturday that I hopped on a jet at JFK to begin my California residency.

Let’s talk about Belmont weddings.  We had two of them this month. I told you about our Kenosha gig earlier in the month. On the 23rd we headed up to Sebastopol for the wedding of Unc and Mashie’s daughter. She married a young man she has known since pre-school, and they re-connected a few years ago.

We stopped at the Lagunitas brewery on the way up. We had a good lunch and a sampler of their beers. They had quite a selection, but you can only get many of them at that site. After that we headed to the Courtyard Marriott in Santa Rosa, located conveniently across the street from the Hyatt, where the welcome party was. There was a slight chill in the air that evening, but they had heaters. In any case, I grew up in those rough and tumble East Coast winters, remember? We had a good time there and I also got to see a guy dressed up like Ricky Bobby. His main sponsor was Wonder Bread.

The wedding day turned out beautifully. We were shuttled from the hotel to a gorgeous venue. A good family friend did the officiating, and it all went off without a hitch. Before dinner we communed with nature and a couple glasses of wine. My wife made sure we got some good family photos. I sometimes kid her about that, but the only reason we have a good archive is because of her. Maybe I should work on being a better planner before I hit 70.

Dinner was family style, and they did an excellent job. The chicken was just right, so I put a few extra pieces in my wife’s purse. It is a real art to be able to serve so many people a quality meal. Once I have more than six people over to my house for dinner, everything goes to hell. Ask my FC crew.

Speaking of them, Unc and Mashie have a Belmont crew, which we married into last year. They are a great bunch of people, not as witty, urbane and successful as the FC crew, but nice folks nonetheless. We got to hang with them throughout the event. One of them was even nice to enough to help me up when I fell on my ass coming off the dance floor, where I only moved from the waist up due to my bum hip.
