Social Whirlwind

One of my bugaboos is that my wife doesn’t plan enough social activities for us. I knew she was a wallflower when I married her, but she is starting to come out of her shell. This week we have a harmonic convergence of bonhomie.

Thursday night we had dinner at #1’s house along with TCG, Katie and the Belgians.  The purported purpose was to discuss our upcoming France trip, but who needs a reason to get a free meal off of #1, an excellent cook. #2 was supposed to be there as well but we got the bad news that he had been in a car accident on his way to the event.  His car was totaled, and he had to go to the ER to get checked out, but he was fine and attended our next soiree, which was yesterday.

That get-together was at a Hawaiian restaurant in San Carlos, Noelani's Island Grill. It was a surprise retirement party for Janet, the Hotelier’s wife. The chow was good, and the surprise part came off well. My wife had coordinated getting poems and remarks from a wide array of folks along with their favorite pictures to put in a Shutterfly book.  Many read their entries while Janet sat on a wicker throne. My line about her getting fired rather than retiring caused a laugh riot.  You can’t keep a blog going for 19 years unless you can launch a funny every couple months.

The retirement party dovetailed well with tonight’s event, a baby shower for the Hotelier and Janet’s daughter. A lot of their family flew in for the twofer. My wife, daughter and Charlie have been working away on victuals, flowers and decorations for it, along with some fun games. I’m not sure if the theme has been announced so I won’t give it away here.  The best part of having it at my house at my house is I can periodically take ten alone in my bedroom, because people are so drawn to me that it is sometimes too much.

Tomorrow is Easter Sunday.  It is also Greek Easter, although the two do not always coincide.  We’ve been invited for the occasion to TCG and Katie’s FC home, where his older son, a BBQ master, resides. A few times previously in the blog I had referred to Greek Easter as Greaster, but I am now officially retiring that one.
