As My Lawn Lays Dying
Being the solid citizen I am, I had to pull the plug on the sprinkler system. Now my lawn has about the same chances of survival as the Trump presidential campaign.
We just got
back from a week’s vacation on the East Coast.
We began with a festive dinner with The Wigs at Jaleo in DC. We had muchas tapas and probably could have
had more. Mrs. Wig pointed out, rightly
so, that there was a lack of detail on my last post regarding our Costa Rica
trip. That is why I’m making sure I
document this last trip while the memories are relatively fresh.
After dinner
we luxuriated in the lobby of The Wig’s hotel, right across the street. We then went out for cocktails. We checked into the upstairs bar at Daikaya,
characterized as casual and funky by Google reviews. Since I am neither, and there was no table
space, we went next door to Graffiato for artisanal cocktails and craft
beers. We were joined by SB1’s roommates
and friends, good kids all.
Sunday we
went shopping at Target for the boy, a favorite activity. We got to walk all the items back about three
blocks to his apartment, but my offspring did the heavy lifting. We took all his roomies out to a taco lunch
as well. That evening we took #1’s kid
and his girlfriend out to dinner at The Pig. I take the kids out for meals because that’s
the kind of guy I am. Surprisingly, The
Pig features a pork heavy menu. We got some pics of the boys chowing down on their
shared meal that could have fed a village.
I brought up the Venmo app just to bust #1’s kid’s chops. They gotta pay one way or another.
Monday
brought us up to the NJ shore, where I spent many a summer with my family. My body surfing skills have deteriorated
since then. My brother-in-law has a
great place at Stone Harbor and I’m sure he enjoyed us swarming all over it as
he tried to have a relaxing vacation with his own family.
The whole
crew enjoyed many meals and we always had a cocktail hour. One night was margarita night. I fixed those, which matched perfectly with
the lasagna my daughter made. All other
cocktail hours were overseen by the martini master, aka my brother-in-law. My mother-in-law was with us as well so it
was an outstanding family event in which we all got along famously.
By now we’ve
scattered to the winds. The adults are
back at work and the kids will be heading back to school. My oldest niece is off to Copenhagen for a
semester and SB1 has kicked off his grad program in DC. The girl has moved back in with us as of this
week. Give her a call and see how it’s
going for her.
Switching
gears, there’s been quite a lot of divorce activity in the celebrity
world. Stefani, Affleck etc. These things don’t seem to work out
forever. Completing the celeb circle of
life, Jennifer Anniston had a secret wedding with a select group of dear
friends. It was lovely.
I’ll close
with a Geno Smith joke I heard today.
Geno threw
the first punch but it fell five yards short.
