My Mundane Existence

The indoor renovation project is complete.  We passed inspection and my wife took the inaugural shower in our new bathroom.  I like it because a big ox like me has more space.  The only downside is that I must squeegee now.  I cannot imagine what the penalty for not doing so will be.

The outside is coming along well.  Those guys bust their butts.  They had all the concrete broken up and hauled away with the first couple days.  At this point, the new landing is installed, and the pergola is up, which makes me giddy, as I’ve already told you I’ve longed for a pergola for decades.  I used to tell my mom “tea, toast, big table”, meaning I wanted my baby bottle with sweetened tea along with my usual breakfast of toast at the table, not in the highchair.  If I recall correctly, it was shortly after I outgrew that phase that I began talking to my parents about getting a pergola. Alas, my entreaty fell on deaf ears.

Now that the indoor construction is complete, my wife is working on a few accents.  Today we assembled a headboard for our bed.  I was curious about the color and she told me it was “blue ice”.  Yes, blue ice, that’s the ticket.  She’s heading down to the container store today to pick up a closet organizer, which they will install tomorrow.  I think she had the option of us installing it, but she knew full well that that would have led to WWIII, so she wisely decided to spend a few more bucks.

In other big news, I’ve submitted my resignation to my current employer and will begin what should be my final gig on July 13.  I’ll take the 10th off so we can go see the TCGs in Tahoe.  I expect to be admonished by my son for not being strict enough about social distancing.  I’ll counter with him not being strict enough about sending me some of the dough he owes me.

I missed the FC boy’s call last night, but I have a good excuse.  We went to Unc and Mashie’s for her 65th birthday celebration.  We were planning to eat outside but the Belmont fog and wind decided to descend.  It was not too bad when we got there so we had a cocktail on the deck before dinner in the dining room.  We brought the main course and sides up with use.  We would have done it here but, as mentioned, the outside is in mid-construction.  SB1’s girlfriend’s parents were there as well, whom I’ll now refer to as the Magnificent Montereyans. It seems word of this celebration got to our kids, so my wife got a text from SB1 about social distancing.  Send money SB1.
