Graduation

I'll be heading down to Redwood City later today to see my little girl graduate high school. We had a party for her at my place Monday. If you're reading this and weren't invited, don't blame me. In these matters I just follow orders.

We went hog wild for the party, getting some excellent Mexican chow from La Tapatia. Folks made a pretty good dent in it but we'll be eating chicken fajitas and rice for the rest of the week. All this brings me back to my graduation day, when my old man kicked in a six pack of Pabst Blue Ribbon and a box of saltines.

We had a good crowd Monday. Most of the village was here, my sis, all the kid's friends and many of their parents. I was the consummate host as usual. A couple cute three year olds were roaming around too. We watched some Special Agent Oso together. SB1 and his village cohorts have all hit 21 now so they were dipping deep into the Corona well. I told TCG and The Exec's kids to stay out of there. They're only high school seniors. We also got a special visit from my mother-in-law. I keep trying to drive her to the airport but she insists her flight doesn't go out until Thursday morning.

Last night was the baccalaureate mass at NDNU. The wife and I managed to get into an argument as we were driving onto the campus. I apparently didn't steer the car in the right direction. However, my faux pas led us to nabbing a coveted parking spot in a very crowded lot. So there! But I didn't go into blame mode when we discovered she had not brought the required tickets to the event. She then she sprung into action as she is wont to do. She tracked down one of the school administrators, who secured us four tickets. That's one of the many reasons I married her. Why she married me remains a mystery. Maybe because at heart she's an altruist. Back in '85 when we met, I think she viewed me as a rescue.

The mass was a touching event, with a speech by the outgoing campus minister and some recollections from a couple of my daughter's close friends. We didn't attend the reception afterward, which was OK with me and apparently with SB1, after I explained to him that there would be no Jello shots.
