I got many birthday wishes today. thank you very much, but the most touching ones were from Putnam Auto, where I purchased my treasured Volvo, and Oldies 103.7

As I begin writing, its Sunday morning. The rest of the family is asleep. I'm supposed to be working on my resume. That's why I'm writing this blog post.

My wife's birthday is tomorrow. I'm ahead of the curve and have already gotten her present. We had a nice dinner last night with friends at Piperade in SF. It's on the Chron Top 100 list. I was not impressed with my veal stew, perhaps because I make one hell of a veal stew, for which you can find the recipe below. However, I still recommend Piperade. Dr. Joe and I went there some time back and had a fine meal. One mediocre dish has not put me off to the place.

We celebrated my sister's birthday last weekend. We had drinks and appetizers at one of her favorite spots, Wood Tavern in Oaktown. It's a class joint with a class clientele, except when I'm there. I spent quite bit of the time having an investment discussion with a friend. I explained my strategy which, as when I go to Vegas, is to go with my gut feel, close my eyes, and hope for the best. The rest of the folks seemed to be enjoying themselves, sipping Corpse Revivors and Sidecars. I stuck with a Belgian brew. We then headed back to the kid's house, where we chowed down on a primo lasagne prepared by LA. My brother disappeared into the other room for quite a while. This was OK with me because I really didn't feel like talking to him. In the meantime, I introduced another friend to the Vesper, #1's #1 drink. It was well received. After hugs all around, we headed home.

This Friday I caught a baseball game at Serra, where TCG's son plays for the varsity team. For the unaware, Serra baseball has produced some pretty good players, Barry Bonds among them. Although my son went there for four years, this was the first time I had been at their baseball field. Serra pulled out a late inning victory. After that, wifey and I decided to have a pre-birthday bite at Kingfish in San Mateo. We had drinks, oysters, calamari and their shrimp and crab sandwich. Four thumbs up.

Tonight my wife is planning to make me a birthday dinner. I'll believe it when I see it.
