Amazin'

I haven't been this excited about baseball since October 16, 1969, the day the Mets knocked off the mighty Orioles. As soon as the school bell rang at St. Joe's grade school, we made our way across the street to a classmate's house to catch the final inning of game five. Day baseball for the World Series? That's right. It was before the complete corporate co-option of the game, where advertisers call all the shots. After the game ended, my buddy Clark and I hustled home on one of the town's main streets, grinning and waving to all the honking cars.

The Giants took this series in a similar fashion, four games to one, behind a tough young pitching staff and a bunch of non-superstars out in the field. I recently had the front page of my hometown newspaper from the day after the Met's clincher framed. I need to pick up a couple extra copies of the Chron tomorrow.

Congrats to The World Champs!!!!

Good call on the Mets! Do remember that one also. This Giant team was the perfect example of a "Team" winning the series and not a bunch of "Superstars" carrying their team to victory. Go Giants!!!
