Working for the Weekend

My sis said she wanted to make the blog, so here it is. Maybe after this she’ll make a point of having me keep her out of the blog. The wife and I went over to her house last night for a fundraising event for one of her favorite charities. It was raining pretty hard on the way over but fortunately there was valet parking at her house. All of my family’s events have had valet parking since my dad started the tradition in the 60’s. There was some fine grub, including some mini-burgers. I guess that was an upscale take on sliders from White Castle, which I’ve never actually experienced. At one point the servers, another family tradition, came around with mushrooms with citrus aioli on toast points. I got a little pissed because I had that on the menu this week for my family. It threw off my rotation.

Friday we had a good turnout for Halloween. Fortunately for the kids the rain held off until Saturday. My wife and daughter did most of the candy distribution but I helped a bit. I had just picked up my CPAP machine for my sleep apnea that day and I was going to answer the door with my mask on as my costume. I thought the better of it though. I didn’t want the neighborhood on my lawn with torches and pitchforks.

I have question for my readership. A few weeks back I was at the Hillsdale train station. I saw a “meat is murder” bumper sticker on a min-van there and got the impulse to slap an In N’ Out Burger sticker next to it. Does that make me a bad person?

Since we are now into November, its time to start getting in the holiday spirit. I’ll be kicking things off Thanksgiving week with a trip to Vegas with The UK and 4M. TK is on the fence at this point but I don’t think he'll want to miss quality time with his old high school mates. After Vegas, Christmas will be upon us in no time. Here’s a little gift hint to my friends. But please, beware of imitators.
